Florida ROLLS over Vanderbilt
Nashville, TN - The Florida Gators controlled this game from start to finish as they rolled over the Commodores of Vanderbilt 59 to 13. The first play of the game was a interception returned for a touchdown by Gators DE Ronald Powell and that set the tone for the entire game. The win improves the Gators to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the SEC. It is the third win in as many tries for interim head coach Jeff Hickerson. "We played a near perfect game today, we ran the ball exceptionally well, threw the ball a little bit here and there, we really didnt need too all day though, and played lights out on defense, if you ask me that is a perfect recipe for success and we executed that recipe well today, very proud of our guys," said Hickerson afterwards.
The Gators put up 474 yards of total offense and it could have been many more if they actually played offense instead of running the ball, Florida completely outmanned the Commodores at every position on the field. John Brantley had a very quiet day, going 13 for 20 for 121 yards and a touchdown, and 1 inerception. Jeff Demps had 13 carries for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns, Mike Gillislee had 10 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, Emanuel Moody had 10 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown, and Chris Rainey had 3 carries for 27 yards before leaving the game in the first half with a strained pectoral muscle - he will be out approximately 5 weeks. To say the least, the Gators found out today that they have plenty of depth at the running back position.
The Gators welcome in South Carolina next week as they look to stay hot and continue to hope for a Georgia loss in SEC play.
